How do I care for my mala?
Handle your mala gently and care for it occasionally.
1) Conditioning (for natural beads)
Warm a small drop of natural oil between your palms (mineral oil works well). Optional: add one drop of essential oil. Gently rub the beads to restore softness and sheen.
In dry climates, condition every few months; otherwise, once a year is usually enough. Natural beads may darken over time—this is normal.
2) Understanding your mala
Each mala is hand-strung by artisans. Some styles are designed for daily durability, while others are more decorative. Gemstones are heavier than wood or seed beads, which may affect daily wear.
3) Protecting the cord & beads
Soap, lotion, oils, sweat, and moisture can gradually wear down beads and cord. Remove your mala before bathing, swimming, or activities where it may get wet. With regular use, restringing may eventually be needed.
4) Cleaning
If needed, rinse gently in lukewarm water with a drop of mild dish soap. Pat dry with a soft cloth, then hang and let it dry completely.
Cared for with intention, your mala becomes more than jewelry—it becomes a companion over time.
